I watched "Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close" & thought it was an OK movie. I do not believe it deserved the Best Picture nomination which it received though...
The premise of this movie is unique as it follows a boy's journey searching for a lock for a key his father (who was killed in the World Trade Center on 9/11) had kept. He searches the city of New York by contacting people with the last name of "Black", the only clue he has regarding this mysterious key. After some time, he is joined on his journey by an elderly man who doesn't speak. The elderly man is excellently portrayed by Max von Sydow.
The movie has a few twists & turns, but doesn't offer up too many surprises. New York City is a nice backdrop for this movie & could be considered one of the characters as well. And Thomas Horn's performance playing the boy (Oskar Schell) stood out for me. Big-named stars Tom Hanks (Oskar's father Thomas) and Sandra Bullock (Oskar's mother Linda) don't really stand out as much, but they also don't get a lot of screen time.
This is just an OK movie...6.5/10 stars
