Restaurant Review: La Saj (Sterling Heights, Michigan)

My oldest brother Dennis was in town recently & he wanted to go to a Lebanese restaurant as he doesn't get an opportunity to eat at Middle Eastern restaurants very often. So we tried La Saj in Sterling Heights as I hadn't ever been there & it had favorable reviews on Yelp.

Given the high ratings on Yelp, I was slightly disappointed & so was Dennis. Don't get me wrong, the food was far from bad but I expected it to be much better than it was. We started out with bread, garlic dip & hummus which were actually quite good, with the garlic dip being very strong & flavorful. The bread was fresh & warm and the hummus was tasty. Then we had fried kibbee which was good as well. I then had lentil soup which was just OK. For an entree, I had Chicken Shawarma with rice and Dennis had Kafta with rice. The Shawarma was good & had good flavor, but it wasn't great. And the rice had red sauce (tomato sauce?) which was also just OK. I prefer having rice with small chunks of almonds & other spices as I've had at many other Lebanese restaurants. Dennis' Kafta was just plain bland & had little to no flavor.

All in all, La Saj is a good but not great Lebanese restaurant. I honestly still prefer the old La Shish to any Lebanese restaurant I've tried in metro Detroit...
