Restaurant Review: Vinsetta Garage (Royal Oak, Michigan)
So I have been to the Vinsetta Garage a couple of times now. I did like it, but I didn't love it…I think maybe I need to try a few different things the next time I go. The atmosphere/restaurant is awesome…how cool is an old car garage converted to a restaurant with that garage feel maintained!?
The first time I went, I went with some friends that I used to work with (shoutouts to Susan Butler & her husband Dan, Amy Chu and Mike Davidson!). We started with Deep Fried Cheese Curds (Badass beer battered with a side of red hot blue cheese) and Disco Fries (House-cut fries, Ellsworth cheese curds, whole grain mustard gravy, chili flakes, scallions). I really enjoyed both of these "healthy" appetizers, especially the cheese curds. For an entree, I had Noodles & Balls (insert joke here!), which is essentially a build your own meatballs & pasta dish. I chose Chicken & Asiago meatballs with Bacon Pecorino Cream sauce. And I guess I only have myself to blame for this, because this combo was just OK and frankly, a little bland. I had high expectations for my first dinner at VS & I was slightly disappointed.
The second time I went, it was on Dream Cruise Saturday with the Sinak family (shoutouts to Wendy, Emily, Tyler & Steve!). It wasn't super busy that day, believe it or not. But they did have a limited menu, I assume because they expected a busy day. This time, I chose the Vinsetta Burger (double Angus beef patties, American cheese, lettuce, tomato, chopped Topor's pickles, Woodshop MI maple bacon, Vinsetta Burger Sauce) which came with their homemade chips. Even though I couldn't get the burger cooked medium rare (they said due to the thinner patties, they couldn't cook it this way), I did really enjoy this burger. The Vinsetta Burger Sauce is what made it stand out for me, as it was very tasty. This 2nd visit to VS was more enjoyable than the first from a food perspective.
All in all, Vinsetta Garage is a cool place with good food. I want to try more of their dishes & from what I've been told (from my friend Amanda), their Faygo Ice Cream (house-made liquid nitrogen churned Faygo Rock N' Rye ice cream dusted with Pop Rocks) is awesome!

We had three people and we all got different pizzas and shared. I had the margarita (I know I spelled that incorrectly) pizza and a friend got the coney pizza. The coney pizza was surprisingly tasty.
And you MUST try the rock n rye ice cream!!!!
Went back on a Wednesday night, the place was packed, with 1hr wait.
Ended up having a nice dinner at the bar...,one of the better bar "stools/chairs" I have ever had the pleasure to enjoy. Always unique company to chat with for sure.
Had the fried curd cheese and buffalo wings for app.. btw the Fried Curd Cheese was killer (no pun).
The bean chili and chili rubbed flank steak with mac/cheese were all good.
All in all a fun bar with great tunes all night long. Food is really good...not out of this world. But a fun reasonable restaurant worth keeping on my rotation.
Great blog I enjoyed reading it
