Restaurant Review: One-Eyed Betty's (Ferndale, Michigan)

After hearing about One-Eyed Betty's in Ferndale, Michigan pretty much ever since it opened, I had always wanted to try it and finally had an opportunity to do so for a Friday happy hour get-together with my good friend Anne. I had very high expectations and they were most definitely met as One-Eyed Betty's is a great place with a great atmosphere.

One-Eyed Betty's is primarily known for its amazing, extensive craft beer selection (just like Clubhouse BFD in Rochester Hills). They do indeed have tons of beer both on tap & in bottles.

As a lover of India Pale Ales, my first beer was an Arcadia IPA (an English IPA from Arcadia Brewing Company in Battle Creek, MI).

I then moved onto a Freedom of '78 (an American IPA from Short's Brewing Company in Bellaire, MI) with my final beer being an Enjoy by 4.20.14 (an American Double/Imperial IPA from Stone Brewing Company in Escondido, CA). These were all great beers with the Enjoy by 4.20.14 being my favorite. Can you tell I like pale ales?

While sipping on our beer, we enjoyed a great appetizer, the Carnival Pretzels which came with a cheese dipping sauce, a mustard sauce, and a garlic cream cheese. I really enjoyed the cheese dipping sauce and really liked the cream cheese (I don't like mustard, so I steered clear of that one). How can you go wrong with beer & pretzels?

Since they have a burger which is touted as the 2013 Detroit Burger Brawl Champ, we just had to try it. The Betty Burger comes with bacon, sharp cheddar, garlic aioli, greens, tomato & onion. It comes with fries, but I substituted onion rings since I didn't get onions on my burger. As I always do with burgers, steaks, etc. I got my cooked medium rare.

It was one of the better burgers I've had and the garlic aioli is what differentiated it from a lot of burgers I've sampled. It's not the best in metro Detroit (Red Coat Tavern still holds that title for me), but it was very good!

One-Eyed Betty's is a great place! It has tons of great craft beers on tap, it has good food, it's reasonably priced, and the atmosphere is very laid back & fun. It was very busy by the time we left, which further validates its popularity. It is definitely now one of my favorite places in metro Detroit.
