TV Shows with 9.0-9.5 Stars

I watch a lot of TV shows. Yes, that is an understatement. Family & friends are always asking me what shows I am watching, what shows can I recommend that they watch, etc. Pretty much every show I watch is good if not very good. I guess if a show wasn’t any good, I wouldn’t be watching it.

This list is the cream of the crop, recent shows that I give 9.0-9.5 stars. Not many shows in my world get 10 stars (The SopranosBreaking Bad, and Mad Men are 3 that do), so if I rank a show this high, you know it’s good.

The Americans (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2149175)

Arguably the best show currently on TV. This show about Russian spies living in the U.S. in the early 80’s at the peak of the Cold War is fantastic...9.5/10 stars.

Better Call Saul (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3032476)

Spin-offs rarely are as good as their “parent” show, but Saul comes very close. It moves at a much different pace than Breaking Bad did as it can be very slow & methodical, but that’s what sets it apart. It also has a lot more humor than BB ever had. This is an awesome show...9.5/10 stars.

Game of Thrones (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0944947)

Just in case you hadn’t heard this, but GoT is pretty good. It has dragons, sex, political intrigue, intense drama, and some humor (usually on the dark side). Did I mention it has dragons? Yeah, GoT is awesome...9.5/10 stars.

Big Little Lies (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3920596)

This HBO mini-series is definitely a must-see as it blends an amazing cast (with Nicole Kidman & Reese Witherspoon being particular standouts), breathtaking scenery, drama, mystery, and humor...9.5/10 stars

Manhattan (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3231564)

This show about the Manhattan Project (the development of the atomic bomb) during WWII is one of the best shows that most people either haven’t seen or haven’t heard about. It’s a shame that it only lasted 2 seasons because it was excellent...9.0/10 stars.

Mr. Robot (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4158110)

The first season of Mr. Robot was arguably a 9.5, but the 2nd season wasn’t as good. It is still an excellent show that has unforeseen twists & turns that constantly keep you on your toes...9.0/10 stars.

American Crime Story: The People vs. O.J. Simpson (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2788432/episodes?season=1)

I totally forgot about this show in my original post. It is just so intriguing, just like the O.J. trial was in 1995. There is a reason why it won so many Emmys as it is well-written, well-acted, well-directed, and flat out addictive...9.0/10 stars.

Silicon Valley (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2575988)

This could be the funniest show on TV. Its biggest rival is probably another Sunday night HBO comedy (next on this list). As an engineer who works with engineers, I love Silicon Valley...9.0/10 stars.

Veep (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt1759761)

Many critics consider Veep to be the funniest show on TV. I have a hard time arguing with that as it’s absolutely hilarious with a crazy number of one-liners...9.0/10 stars.

Last Week Tonight with John Oliver (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt3530232)

British comedian John Oliver uses humor to bring to light key news events of the week with a focus on a single subject as well every week. It makes for a truly entertaining way to keep up on current events, especially in the Trump era...9.0/10 stars.
