2022 Oscar Predictions

There seem to be a lot of locks, especially in the acting & technical awards (Dune is going to clean up on these). I think Best Picture is going to get interesting though. This is the first time I’ve ever placed actual bets using DraftKings for the awards based on these predictions.

UPDATE: I only got 2 of my predictions wrong (both screenplay awards). The winners are below in blue.

BEST PICTURE

Belfast
CODA
Don’t Look Up
Drive My Car
Dune
King Richard
Licorice Pizza
Nightmare Alley
The Power of the Dog
West Side Story

What I want to/think should win: Dune...was THE BEST PICTURE OF 2021! It deserves the Return of the King treatment by sweeping everything it’s nominated for even though it won’t.
What I predict will win: I am making a last-minute prediction that CODA will win after originally predicting that The Power of the Dog would.

BEST DIRECTOR

Paul Thomas Anderson (Licorice Pizza)
Kenneth Branagh (Belfast)
Jane Campion (The Power of the Dog)
Ryûsuke Hamaguchi (Drive My Car)
Steven Spielberg (West Side Story)

Who I want to/think should win: Denis Villeneuve for Dune...Oh wait, he was snubbed! The biggest snub of this year’s Oscars. He better win for Dune Part II.
Who I predict will win: Jane Campion

BEST ACTRESS

Jessica Chastain (The Eyes of Tammy Faye)
Olivia Colman (The Lost Daughter)
Penélope Cruz (Parallel Mothers)
Nicole Kidman (Being the Ricardos)
Kristen Stewart (Spencer)

Who I want to/think should win: Emilia Jones for CODA...oh wait, she was snubbed. Rachel Zegler for West Side Story...oh wait, she was snubbed too! How about Alana Haim for Licorice Pizza? Nope...SNUBBED! I like Olivia Colman, but did not like The Lost Daughter, so it’d be OK if anyone else wins here even though Nicole Kidman shouldn’t win for a movie that’s just OK.
Who I predict will win: Jessica Chastain

BEST ACTOR

Javier Bardem (Being the Ricardos)
Benedict Cumberbatch (The Power of the Dog)
Andrew Garfield (Tick, Tick … Boom!)
Will Smith (King Richard)
