Movie Review: "Ted" (2012)

Is "Ted" a raunchy, juvenile comedy mostly directed at men? Yes. Is Ted the teddy bear a raunchy, foul-mouthed character? Yes. Did I laugh my butt off watching this movie? YES!

John Bennett has no friends. One Christmas, John receives a teddy bear as a gift and he wishes upon a falling star for this bear to come alive. And lo & behold, his wish is granted! Ted the teddy bear (the voice of Seth MacFarlane) becomes a celebrity and remains John's (John as an adult is played by Mark Wahlberg) best friend until adulthood. This eventually becomes an issue as John's relationship with his girlfriend Lori (played by the insanely beautiful Mila Kunis) gets more serious. Ted is also being stalked by a man named Donny (played by Giovanni Ribisi) & his son Robert (played by Aedin Mincks). All of these events transpire hilariously.

Ted is obnoxious, immature & foul-mouthed and he likes to party (drinking, smoking pot, etc.). He enjoys the company of prostitutes & strippers. He is hilarious and some of the things he says are the best one-liners I've heard in a movie in a very long time (one of my favorites is when he tells Robert, who is a bit chunky, to "Back off Susan Boyle!"). He even manages to get his & John's movie idol to attend one of his parties, Sam Jones the star of the 80s movie "Flash Gordon." And that party scene is one of the highlights of the movie.

This is one of the funniest movies I've seen in a long time. I laughed almost the entire time and some of the scenes with John & Ted are gut-busting (the scene were John tries to guess the name of Ted's new love interest being one of the best!).

MacFarlane wrote & directed this movie as well as voicing Ted. And he does a great job at all three. Wahlberg is pretty funny as John, who his pretty much turned into a himbo as an adult after being a friendless kid. Mila Kunis continues to shine as one of the funniest women in the movies these days.

I really liked this movie & it's the funniest movie I've seen since "Bridesmaids"...8.0/10 stars
