Movie Review: "The Bourne Legacy" (2012)

"The Bourne Legacy" is a good action movie that I enjoyed and kept me entertained. It's not as good as the 3 original "Bourne" movies, but it is a good accompaniment to them.

This movie takes place during the same timeframe as "The Bourne Ultimatum", but it does not follow Jason Bourne, it follows a different CIA assassin named Aaron Cross (played by Jeremy Renner). Cross is training in Alaska as part of a black ops program where agents are fed "chems" (drugs) to enhance both their technical & physical abilities. Cross becomes targeted for assassination of the CIA when both the Treadstone & Blackbriar operations from the previous "Bourne" movies become public knowledge. Cross becomes aware of this and goes on the run, eventually taking him to the Philippines where he seeks out the source of the chems that are enhancing his skills & even altering his DNA.

Jeremy Renner has become a good action star over the years and he shows off those skills in this movie. The movie itself is action-packed, moves at a good pace and kept me engaged. I will admit that having another "Bourne" movie probably was unnecessary as the original trilogy was excellent, with the final movie wrapping up the series nicely. All of that notwithstanding, this is a good movie.

My rating...7.0/10 stars
