Restaurant Review: City Park Grill (Petoskey, Michigan)

Over the years, I have been going to City Park Grill in Petoskey, Michigan with friends after a long day of skiing as it is an excellent restaurant with good food, good beer and a casual, unpretentious atmosphere. I went again recently with a different group of friends the Friday night before the annual Zoo-de-Mack bike ride and it didn't disappoint. And it was nice to introduce a different group of friends to this great place.

City Park Grill is located in downtown Petoskey which is a cool little town in Northern Lower Michigan (since I am from the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I refuse to refer to this area of the state as "Northern" Michigan!). If you don't know where Petoskey is, here are a couple of pics showing where it is:

A group of 5 guys went on this particular night and it wasn't very busy, which was somewhat surprising to me. But since tourist season hadn't officially started due to still being before Memorial Day, that was probably the reason. We were able to get a good hightop table in the bar area which allowed us to watch the Detroit Tigers game while enjoying our drinks and dinner.

They have a Dinner Tasting menu which allows you to choose an appetizer, an entree and a dessert.

City Park has some of the most amazing homemade biscuits I've ever had and they always bring them out to you served warm from an oven tray. They crumble perfectly and hardly need any butter because they are so good.

For my appetizer, I chose the Fried Buffalo Wonton and it was very good. My friend Jeff chose the Traditional Hummus with pita bread and it was some of the best hummus I've tasted. Both appetizers did not disappoint.

One of the best items on City Park's menu is their Almond Whitefish which is almond encrusted whitefish with roasted red pepper cream sauce and the red pepper sauce is what makes it so good. I've had it many, many times and it is always fantastic. This time for an entree, I chose the Cajun Crusted Whitefish (with Worcestershire beurre blanc and Creole wild rice salad) paired with a good glass of Pinot Grigio. And I was not disappointed as this entree was very tasty and just enough spice to it giving it a little zip. It is very close to being as good as the Almond Whitefish and I would definitely get it again!

And finally for dessert, I chose the Chocolate Chip Cookie Sandwich with vanilla ice cream and chocolate sauce. How COULD this not be good? And it was! It was a great end to a great dinner!

If you ever find yourself in the Petoskey or Harbor Springs area, be sure to stop in and enjoy a great meal at the City Park Grill.

Been there once, I believe they had a mussels in some sort of white sauce special that night. Not sure if it was all you can eat but people were definitely picking up to go orders.

Would visit again.

Thanks
