Movie Review: "The Hunger Games" (2012)

Going into "The Hunger Games", I really didn't know what to expect. I haven't read the books & didn't know much about it. So I didn't have super high expectations. I was pleasantly surprised!

This is not your run-of-the-mill teeny-bopper movie, that's for sure! Jennifer Lawrence's Katniss would rule the world of those Twilighters!

Let me talk about Jennifer Lawrence for a minute. When I saw her performance in "Winter's Bone", I thought then that she was one of the best young actors in the business. Her performance in "Hunger Games" confirmed that for me.

This is a dark, intense movie that at times is just plain odd and even a bit freaky. The oddness & freakiness mostly stem from the flippant attitude of those who are the spectators of the games. Sometimes it comes across as comical & silly. Then you realize that they are acting that way regarding the death of teenagers and that they are being entertained by this. The perfect example of this is Stanley Tucci's flamboyant, eccentric character talkshow host Caesar Flickerman who treats the games like a warped reality show.

Sometimes the action scenes were a bit hard to follow & the camerawork during those scenes could have been a bit better.

All in all, I did really like this movie...7.5/10 stars

Larry, you should read the Hunger Games trilogy. It's so very, very good. It would also explain a lot of the "odd" parts of the movie.
