I wasn't sure if I'd actually like "The Artist" but since it won Best Picture, I felt obligated to watch it. And I was pleasantly surprised because I did like it. I don't believe it deserved all of the awards it received ("The Help" was the best of the Best Pic nominees as far as I'm concerned with "The Descendants" a close second...), but it is a good movie.
I have to say that the story was quite easy to follow even for a silent film. I also believe that Jean Dujardin's performance was quite good and he perhaps did deserve his Best Actor award (although Clooney was so awesome in "The Descendants"...). Dujardin did an excellent job portraying fading film star George Valentin. He was humorous when necessary and also portrayed sadness/depression quite well in spite of having no dialogue.
And of course Uggie's performance as Jack the Dog was stellar!
This movie does a good job of portraying humor, sadness & darkness, all without dialogue. And I did like it...7.0/10 stars
