I recently watched the movie "We Need to Talk About Kevin" & although it was a well-written movie, I just didn't like it that much. I tend to not like dark movies, but there are exceptions. In this case, this was just too dark for me.
This movie is about a boy named Kevin (Ezra Miller plays the teenage Kevin & Jasper Newell plays Kevin from the ages of 6-8) who is a difficult child to say the least...he's the devil. He's not possessed like Damien, but he's just an awful, horrible kid. The movie isn't linear as there are flashbacks to Kevin's childhood. The teenage Kevin is in prison & you find out at the end of the movie as to why he is there. The flashbacks don't distract you as a viewer & this is a good way to tell Kevin's story.
The performances by Miller & Newell as Kevin are good as well as Tilda Swinton's performance as Kevin's Mom. These performances make this movie a bit better, but not enough to overcome the darkness that just didn't make this movie entertaining for me.
So given all of that...4.0/10 stars
