Restaurant Review: Cafe Nini (Grosse Pointe Farms, Michigan)

I asked my friend John from work if he could recommend a good restaurant in the Grosse Pte/St. Clair Shores area of metro Detroit for a date I had planned recently (yes, I do occasionally convince women to go out on dates with me!). He rattled off a few and based on our conversation, I settled on Cafe Nini in Grosse Pointe Farms. This wound up being a great choice, as Cafe Nini is an excellent restaurant!

Cafe Nini is a small, quaint Italian restaurant in down town Grosse Pointe Farms. It is very cozy & romantic and was a perfect choice for us.

We decided not to get an appetizer as we wanted to get dessert after dinner. We shared a bottle of Pinot Noir (Ramspeck from Napa Valley to be specific). We did have some bread with olive oil (in my case) which was fresh & tasty.

I did partake in a salad (Da Eduardo House Salad with Crumbled Bleu Cheese) and it was very good.

For an entree, my date chose the Pesce Da Taglio alla Livornese (halibut sauteed in a white wine sauce with capers, black olives and tomatoes) and she really enjoyed it. I had a taste of it as well and it was very good. The fish was cooked perfectly and the sauce was very tasty (I had debated on getting this dish myself, but the veal stuffed ravioli jumped out at me!).

As I said above, when I was perusing the menu, the Ravioli Di Vitello (veal filled ravioli served with Napoletana sauce) leaped off the page at me. I looked at other selections but my eyes kept going back to that, so that is what I chose. I was not disappointed! The serving size was perfect & the raviolis were very good sized pieces. The Napoletana sauce was a perfect choice as it was not a heavy tomato sauce which is something I prefer. The ravioli itself was amazing and very flavorful with the veal taste really coming through. I was very happy with this selection!

And we did save room for dessert! We chose the Chocolate Truffles (frozen dessert with a heart of zabaione cream, covered with chocolate cream and decorated with chopped hazelnuts and cocoa) which capped off an excellent dinner as they were super good!

Cafe Nini proved to be a great, romantic, fun restaurant that I would most definitely return to. For more info, check out their website at: http://daedoardo.net/cafe-nini/
