Movie Review: "The Sound of Music" (1965)

I recently watched "The Sound of Music" for the first time since the mid-90s, so it was essentially like watching it for the first time and I thoroughly enjoyed it!

I normally am not much of a fan of musicals...except for this one. I had forgotten that so many familiar songs were a part of this movie. And the number of songs is not overwhelming as is the case with so many musicals. The songs support the dialogue & acting, not the other way around.

There is not a single weak performance in this movie. Of course, Julie Andrews stands out the most & I find it hard to believe that she didn't win a Best Actress Oscar for this role. And Christopher Plummer gives a fantastic performance even though he didn't really do any singing. All of the actors & actresses who play the children gave great performances as well.

I think what I like the most about this movie, are that it contains the basic tenets that make up so many good movies: It tells a heart-warming, down-to-earth, wholesome story that has the elements of good vs. evil plus what makes so many movies great...it's a love story. And I'm always a sucker for a good love story!

All in all, I really liked this movie...8.5/10 stars
