Restaurant Review: The Clarkston Union

By now, I am sure you've heard of or read about or even seen on TV the Clarkston Union. Hopefully you've had a chance to try it out. It along with its sister restaurant The Union Woodshop was featured in an episode of "Diners, Drive-inns & Dives" on The Food Network with Guy Fieri & his special guest Kid Rock as seen here:

Anyway…I've been going to this place for years. It's a bar/restaurant that used to be a church in downtown Clarkston, MI. It's got a cool, relaxed atmosphere with great food & tons of awesome beer on tap. The beer taps extend almost the entire length of the bar & they always have a good selection of Michigan beers on tap.

I've eaten a few different things there, all of which are fantastic. They've got a great sausages, a kick-ass chicken & spinach dip and of course, their signature mac & cheese. I was fortunate enough to have a dentist appointment in Clarkston today (3/9/12) at 11am which allowed me to get my personal favorite, their lobster mac & cheese to bring home for lunch. I actually got 2 orders of it so I'd have some for lunch, dinner and even a little left over for lunch on Saturday. They take their classic mac & cheese and add even more cheese (pepperjack), sweet peppers, roasted jalapeños, scallions & Maine lobster. It is one of my favorite dishes at any restaurant I've ever been to. For me, it ranks up there with a filet from steakhouses like Ruth's Chris or Flemings.

The next time you are in northern Oakland County or heading to a show at Pine Knob, go to the Clarkston Union…You will NOT be disappointed. Here is a link to their website:
