Movie Review: "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" (2012)

I watched the movie "Seeking a Friend for the End of the World" and I really liked it. It has a nice story and the acting is excellent as Steve Carrell (who plays Dodge Petersen) & Keira Knightley (Penny Lockhart) deliver heartfelt, funny performances.

The world is ending because an asteroid is on a collision course with the Earth. Once the last-ditch effort to destroy the asteroid fails, people begin doing crazy stuff...except for Dodge. He goes on with life as normal, selling insurance, going home to an empty house now that his wife has left him and not doing much differently than he had before. Then he meets Penny. The two of them go on a quest to find Dodge's high school sweetheart and to get Penny back to England. This trip is very fun for the two of them until the end...when the world ends.

This is a very funny, fun movie. The adventure that Dodge & Penny take together is the best part of the movie. They encounter many things & people along the road and the laughs never seem to stop. It is also a heart-warming, charming journey as the two become closer. The dialogue between the two is also great and this is where their acting skills really shine. Of course, their time together leads to a romantic connection between the two and it's this love story that truly defines their time together. My favorite scene of the movie epitomizes this romance when Dodge carries Penny to the airplane which will take her to England while The Hollies "The Air That I Breathe" is playing in the background. It is a touching, bittersweet, wonderful scene.

I found myself wanting this movie to last longer and for the world not to end because it was so entertaining & wonderful to watch.

I really liked this movie...8.0/10 stars
