Movie Review: "The Dark Knight Rises" (2012)

Some movies never live up to their hype and disappoint us. In the case of "The Dark Knight Rises", this is NOT the case. It is an excellent end to Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy and I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end.

In case you hadn't heard, there is a new Batman movie and it is the last one in the Christopher Nolan Batman saga. It is perhaps the best of the three, at least as good as "The Dark Knight." It continues along the dark story-telling path that Nolan started with "Batman Begins." Nolan is becoming one of the best directors & storytellers of our time (just watch "Inception" to fully understand what I am talking about). This is not a tale of the stereotypical superhero. The story is also much deeper & intricate than the average superhero flick. It is also visually very impressive with excellent special effects.

Many blockbusters along the lines of superhero and/or action movies have only average performances from the actors. Again, not in the case of "The Dark Knight Rises." Christian Bale gives another admirable performance as Bruce Wayne/Batman. Tom Hardy gives Bane the brute force necessary for the character. And Anne Hathaway not only looks good in her Catwoman outfit, she gives the character the right amount of sass & attitude necessary to stand up to Batman. Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Marion Cotillard give good performances as John Blake & Miranda Tate respectfully. And veteran actors Gary Oldman (Commissioner Gordon), Morgan Freeman (Lucius Fox) & Michael Caine (Alfred) give the great performances you've come to expect from them.

The movie moves very fast & you don't even realize that it's over 2 1/2 hours long. There is just the right amount of action & suspense to go along with well-written & well-acted dialogue. There won't be any spoilers in this review, but the end of the movie is very satisfying & well worth the journey that takes you there.

I really liked "The Dark Knight Rises"...9.0/10 stars
