Movie Review: "Skyfall" (2012)

In November, I saw "Skyfall" at the IMAX and I definitely liked it. But the AMC Forum 30 IMAX (and the entire theater in general) needs to upgrade their seats as sitting in long movies at that theater is killing people's backs!

"Skyfall" is the latest James Bond movie starring Daniel Craig. I was never really much of a fan of Bond movies until Craig took over in "Casino Royale", which was an excellent re-boot of the series and he has continued to portray 007 superbly. I think I may have a man-crush on Daniel Craig as I don't think I've ever seen him NOT deliver a great performance.

The latest Bond flick takes us on 007's adventure to track down who is behind a plan to wipe out all of NATO's undercover agents deployed in terrorist countries. During this mission, we find out that the same villain is also hunting down Bond's boss & the head of MI6, M. This villain's name is Raoul Silva and he is expertly played by Javier Bardem, who I believe should be nominated for Best Supporting Actor. His portrayal of Silva has redefined the Bond villain as he is that good at playing this diabolical character. I also believe that Judi Dench takes M to another level as her performance brings additional depth to this beloved character.

I think "Skyfall" continues what "Casino Royale" started with respect to portraying Bond as more "real" & less farcical than some of the older movies. The action scenes are excellent and sometimes dazzling. There is just the right amount of humor and emotion as well. I also like how these movies have become more complex and have an almost "Bourne-like" feel to them without quite going that far with respect to being too dark & complex.

I am definitely a big fan of the new Bond and really liked this movie...8.0/10 stars
