2012 has wound up being a good year for movies, especially the movies that have come out in the later part of the year. And one of those is "Silver Linings Playbook."
I like romantic movies, most notably romantic comedies. "Silver Linings Playbook" is not the stereotypical romance movie, but at the end of the day…it's a wonderful love story.
Pat (played by Bradley Cooper, not resembling Phil from "The Hangover" at all) is bipolar and has some anger issues. He gets released from a mental institution and moves in with his parents. His Dad (played perfectly by Robert DeNiro) also has some anger issues, LOVES the Philadelphia Eagles and has serious OCD. His Mom (played by Jacki Weaver) is a loving woman who wants her son to just get better. Pat is obsessed with reconciling with his estranged wife but she has a restraining order against him. Pat then meets Tiffany (played by Jennifer Lawrence, the best young actor/actress on the planet), who is also a bit of a troubled soul. They form an odd friendship, centered around their plan to enter a dance contest together.
The path to the dance contest is wonderful, warm, funny, sometimes darkly humorous, sometimes even a bit uncomfortable…but it's well worth the ride. This is a well-written and wonderfully acted movie. The casting of Cooper, Lawrence & DeNiro was spot on. And David O. Russell's direction weaves a wonderful story.
I was completely entertained by this movie, from beginning to end...I didn't WANT it to end. I think Lawrence is a brilliant actress (OK, I have a little crush on her…) and she shines in this movie. And Cooper has never been better.
Yes, I really, really liked this movie…9.0/10 stars
