Movie Review: "The Theory of Everything" (2014)

When I got home from watching The Theory of Everything (directed by James Marsh and starring Eddie Redmayne & Felicity Jones) I sent a text message to my brother Dennis which said: The Theory of Everything is a wonderful movie. I don't know how I could summarize it any better than that as it truly IS a wonderful movie.

The Theory of Everything is about the relationship between renowned physicist Stephen Hawking (Redmayne) and his wife Jane (Jones). The focus of the movie is how this couple deals with Hawking's debilitating motor neuron disease and his successful career in physics. We meet Hawking before his affliction takes hold of him. We learn how awkwardly charming he was and how this charm wins over Jane. But then the affliction sets in and their lives change significantly. While his body deteriorates rapidly, his mind explodes just as rapidly with groundbreaking ideas which change the world of physics.

This movie is all about the performances of the lead actors. Jones is fantastic at portraying Jane's love & devotion towards Hawking but also the frustration, exhaustion, and pain that Jane felt. Her performance is graceful and just wonderful. Redmayne's portrayal of Hawking is out of this world. He transforms himself so convincingly that you believe Hawking himself is on screen. His ability to show emotions & wit while portraying a man in such a physical state is truly remarkable. I wanted his performance to continue for another few hours.

I can honestly say I LOVED The Theory of Everything...9.0/10 stars
