My Favorite Metro Detroit Seafood Restaurants

I haven't been to any new restaurants lately, so I figured I'd put together a list of my favorite metro Detroit Seafood restaurants. I'd love to get some new recommendations as well!

Streetside Seafood (Birmingham)

A very small restaurant across from the Townsend Hotel in downtown Birmingham, but perhaps my favorite seafood restaurant in metro Detroit. Their food is amazing and the atmosphere is always fun. I have never had a bad meal at Streetside!

Mitchell's Fish Market (Rochester Hills, Livonia & Birmingham)

There are 3 Mitchell's locations in metro Detroit and I have been to all of them, with the Livonia location being the one I have visited the most. They are all great! I normally get their Chilean Sea Bass prepared Shang Hai style (steamed with fresh ginger & scallions, served with sticky rice, spinach & rice wine soy sauce). It is one of my favorite dishes at any restaurant I've ever been to, period.

They always start you out with their warm sourdough bread which is very tasty.

And as an appetizer, I am a big fan of their Crispy Calamari (comes with zesty Asian dipping sauce). It's wonderful!

I have had many meals at Mitchell's and have yet to be disappointed!

Ocean Prime (Troy)

Ocean Prime is an excellent, upscale seafood (and steak) restaurant that I have only been to one time for dinner, but it was incredible. It is definitely a high-end restaurant that is probably more suited to a special occasion. I have been there a couple of other times, once for drinks and once just for dessert because they have perhaps the best dessert of any metro Detroit restaurant: Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie (Peanut butter mousse w/bittersweet chocolate ganache). This dessert is incredible and is the perfect combination of peanut butter & chocolate.

Kruse & Muer and Kabin Kruser's (Rochester)

Kruse & Muer and Kabin Kruser's are both located in downtown Rochester. They are owned by the same restaurant group and have similar food, but stand on their own quite well. Kruse & Muer actually has a few locations and I have been to those Rochester, Lake Orion & Troy. And they own the Rochester Chop House, another fine restaurant.

I have been to the downtown Rochester Kruse & Muer many, many times and have never been disappointed. They have some of the best bread of any restaurant around!

They have great clam chowder (Charley's Chowder), an awesome salad (Kruse & Muer House Salad - Garden greens, fresh fruit, sliced vegetables & honey mustard vinaigrette) and good calamari as starters. They have one of my favorite pasta dishes, Siesta Key Fettuccine (Gulf shrimp, scallops, Maine lobster, artichokes, spinach fettuccine & a sweet tomato butter) of any restaurant.

Kabin Kruser's is a very small restaurant in front of the Rochester Chop House, with the bar serving both restaurants. I prefer Kabin Kruser's to the Chop House as it's much more laid back with a great happy hour and has some excellent seafood. They have my favorite calamari (served with lemon caper red pepper beurre blanc) in the area as it's not the typical fried calamari, but very lightly breaded strips of the shellfish...it's fantastic!

Since I have only been here a couple of times, I don't have any favorite entrees yet, but each time I went, I remember being very pleased with my dinner!

Bonefish Grill (Novi)

I typically avoid national chain restaurants, but there are a few that I enjoy & return to regularly (such as P.F. Chang's) and Bonefish Grill is one of them. There used to be a location in Sterling Hts near Lakeside Mall (and thus, only a few miles from my condo) but it closed a few years ago and now the closest location to me is in Novi.

Bonefish is an excellent restaurant that I have been to many, many times. They have one of my favorite appetizers of all time, Bang Bang Shrimp (Tender, crispy shrimp tossed in a creamy, spicy sauce). This appetizer is very tasty with just the right amount of "zip" making it super tasty.

I've always had great dinners at Bonefish and have never been disappointed!
